Juan Carlos’ former lover, Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, has shared never-before-seen details about her relationship with the then-king. As The Times reports, the woman also described details of a “symbolic” marriage proposal that Juan Carlos allegedly arranged in January 2009 by giving her a large emerald-cut diamond during a romantic dinner.

Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein said that on an unexpected occasion she had a very difficult conversation with Queen Sofia. The conversation would take place at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid in front of an incredulous Juan Carlos. The woman said: “Suddenly Queen Sofia bursts into the room with a face of thunder. He pointed at me and said, “I know who you are.” Obviously I wanted to be swallowed up on the ground”. He added that the former king “seemed totally surprised and unable to cope with this aggression”.
This tete-a-tete with the wife of the Sovereign did not, however, prevent their relationship from continuing. In fact, in 2009, Juan Carlos gave Corinna a very important ring. She said, however, that she interpreted it more as a sign of affection than as a real, binding marriage proposal. However, their relationship soured that same year, as she had to be away from the Sovereign for eight months caring for her cancer-stricken father.
She continued her story by recalling how upon her return to Madrid she learned that her lover had started dating another woman. Finally, during the last episode of the podcast, he did not fail to launch serious accusations against the former king, who abdicated in 2014 on corruption charges.
