Johnny Depp’s daughter dubbed ‘nepotistic baby’ speaks out against sexism in the film industry

Actress Lily-Rose Depp has denounced the sexism behind the label she earned as a “nepotistic baby” early in her career. The term refers to Lily-Rose’s preference in the film industry for being the daughter of renowned entertainers Johnny Depp and French singer Vanessa Paradis.

Speaking to Elle magazine, Lily-Rose Depp pointed out that famous women are more accused of benefiting from nepotism than famous men.

“The internet seems to care a lot about this stuff, and I can say with certainty that no one will give you a role unless you’re cast,” she said.

“The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who put you through things. Maybe you start with one foot in the door, but you always have one foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after. I hear a lot more about women and I don’t think that’s a coincidence,” Lily-Rose commented.

Johnny Depp has been making headlines in recent months after winning the domestic violence and defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. Lily-Rose explained her reasons for not commenting on the matter: “When it’s something so private and so personal that it suddenly becomes not so personal…I really have the right to ‘have my secret garden of thoughts,’ Depp said. “I also don’t think I’m here to answer for anyone and I feel like for a lot of my career people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether it’s either my family members or my boyfriends or whatever.willing to be defined by the things i put out there.
