In an interview with Today, James Michael Tylor, known for playing Gunther in the comedy “Friends,” revealed he is battling stage 4 prostate cancer.
The actor was diagnosed in 2018 during a routine exam at the age of 56 and “has been battling the diagnosis for three years.” He first took hormone therapy, which worked “extremely well the first year,” but the cancer mutated and spread to his spine during the pandemic, ultimately leading to paraplegia.
“I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which eventually spread to my bones. It’s stage 4, the last stage of cancer, so it’s going to beat me eventually, ”the actor said.
Tyler also revealed that this was one of the main reasons not to physically participate in the special “Friends: The Reunion”: “I was happy to be included, but it was my decision not to physically participating in the meeting, going for a video calling through Zoom because I didn’t want to let people down, you know?
Remember that the special will air in Brazil on June 29.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer return for the reunion.
The special will also feature several special guests such as David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevinge, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon and Malala Yousafzai.
