One of 2022’s biggest cinematic surprises was “Everything Everywhere At The Same Time,” the A24 movie that became an instant cult classic when it debuted earlier this year.
Starring Michelle Yeoh (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”), the feature film chronicles a wild adventure across the multiverse and the actress has been widely praised for bringing different versions of herself to life. in parallel universes.
As it turns out, the film nearly starred none other than Jackie Chan, star of several notable titles, such as ‘Mr. Nice Guy: Brawler’, ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ and the ‘Rush Hour’ trilogy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star was A24’s first choice for the lead role, but was unable to star in the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Instead of looking for another actor, writers and directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert decided to rework the script, so they cast Yeoh as the lead.
Have fun watching:
“In the long road of storytelling, you never know how things are going to turn out,” Kwan said. “Changing the characters made it more personal, which gave us rich experience to flesh out the story. It suddenly became much easier to write and let your imagination run wild.
Yeoh also commented on his casting.
“What I need is to be challenged, for the directors to look at me differently. Over the years, I have always been offered strong characters, but this one was unique. So when I read the script, I was like, ‘Wow, what? This is what I need’.”
Along with becoming A24’s highest-grossing project, grossing $101.8 million worldwide, the film also received a 95% approval rating from critics.
