Going into the specifics of the announced technical novelty, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the buttons could behave similarly to the solid-state Home button of the iPhone 7. It is therefore not pressed but simply touched, receiving a vibration upon contact.
Already the second and third generation of the cheaper iPhone SE provided a solid-state home button driven by Apple’s Taptic Engine. The same technology is used by Apple to enable keyboard touch pressure in iOS 16, as well as the Force Touch trackpads found on its MacBooks.
Kuo spoke on Twitter about Apple determined to install Taptic Motors on the left and right sides of the two high-end iPhone 15 models to “provide force feedback to make consumers feel like they’re tapping buttons.” physical buttons”.
The idea was to install a solid-state button already on the Apple Watch in 2018, but in the end the new device is not even present in the new Apple Watch Ultra from 799 euros. A shift that should not happen, however, for the iPhone 15, already eagerly awaited by fanatics of the bitten apple.
