Infrared Saunas: How They Compare to Other Types of Saunas

Infrared Saunas

Saunas have skyrocketed in popularity over the years. At this point, millions of people are seeking saunas at health spas and fitness centers. They’ve had mixed experiences at such places. While they undoubtedly reap some of the advantages of heat therapy, they also express discomfort with joining strangers in public saunas and say they’re unable to fully relax. As a result, they’re not getting the full benefits of the experience.

Because of that, many people are choosing to have private saunas installed in their homes. Doing so allows them to enjoy the maximum benefits. That being said, not all saunas are the same. They come in multiple sizes and styles. Some generate steam via hot stones and water while others create dry heat using gas, electricity, or wood. Of course, infrared saunas use electricity-powered light panels to generate their heat. According to many experts, this distinguishing factor is what sets these saunas apart from the rest.

Exploring the Benefits of Infrared Saunas

Infrared is much different than other heat sources. Most heat the air inside the sauna. From there, the people inside indirectly receive a portion of that heat. The rest simply builds up and eventually dissipates. Infrared panels heat the skin directly rather than the air around it. That makes these types of saunas more efficient and effective than the alternatives. That, alone, is a benefit worth considering, but it’s only the beginning.

Stress Relief

One of the simplest but most noteworthy advantages of infrared saunas is their power to relieve stress. Their heat and peacefulness provide a much-needed escape from everyday life. Spending even a few minutes in a sauna can create a sense of relaxation and reduce stress levels. Stress can have numerous negative mental and physical health effects in its own right, so easing stress is exceptionally helpful.

Alleviating Pain

Infrared saunas can also provide pain relief. They’re effective for pain that stems from injuries as well as that caused by chronic conditions like arthritis. Their heat is a contributing factor in this regard. Heat therapy has long been a touted treatment for pain. Saunas can also reduce inflammation, which is a common source of pain and other health problems. They also soothe sore muscles and physical tension.

Lower Blood Pressure

Studies likewise show infrared saunas can promote lower blood pressure. Their heat causes blood vessels to dilate, allowing blood to flow more freely. That keeps the heart from having to work as hard to keep the blood circulating. Maintaining lower blood pressure can foster heart health while reducing the risk of stroke. It also aids in keeping the eyes, kidneys, and other organs healthier.

Taking Advantage of Infrared Saunas

Those are some of the most outstanding benefits of infrared saunas. Since their direct heat absorbs into the body more readily than that of other types of saunas, their benefits are often elevated. At the same time, the positive health effects they generate may branch out in numerous directions.

Having less stress and pain leads to better sleep. Improved heart health and lower blood pressure can ward off several health issues. Keeping all those other problems at bay may improve immunity. With all that in mind, the question isn’t whether to purchase an infrared sauna; it’s where to put it once it arrives.
