Everyone has had to deal with annoying limescale stains on the toilet at least once, it is a problem present in most of our homes and above all not to be underestimated, because if it is not solved immediately, it could be very difficult to remove them later, because no matter how many times you clean it: the minerals present in the water accumulate continuously and in greater quantities. Being a humid place because it is always in contact with water, it is really difficult to solve the problem of the accumulation of limescale and dirt in the toilet permanently.

When limestone absorbs dirt, it takes on an embarrassing dark color with a foul odor. Precisely for this reason it is of fundamental importance to apply the advice that you will find below, both to prevent the appearance of limescale and to eliminate the limescale that has already accumulated. Let’s see how to do it together. First of all, we need to get more knowledge about limestone. Its composition is mainly made up of calcium carbonate, which is an alkaline compound, so an acid is needed to be able to dissolve it and eliminate it completely.

A good choice is vinegar, combined with lemon. The acids of the two ingredients deeply dissolve toilet stains and limescale deposits, thus also eliminating the microorganisms that cause bad odours. The procedure is very simple: mix about 100 ml of vinegar with two or three tablespoons of lemon juice and sprinkle the mixture over the entire surface of the toilet. Wait about 30 minutes, then simply flush the toilet and use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces of the toilet.

Another valid alternative is the combination of bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide. The compound obtained from these two ingredients has the particularity of whitening the surfaces, and is therefore the most suitable alternative, when it comes to darker limestone. In addition, it also has a disinfectant effect. Here’s how. Mix 80 grams of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, wet a sponge or cloth with the resulting solution and rub on the surfaces. Again, you have to wait 30 minutes before rinsing with plenty of water and you’re done, clean, disinfected and scented bathroom.

Finally, you can also create small DIY toilet bombs, with extraordinary degreasing and anti-odor properties. To make them, you need to mix baking soda and citric acid in a bowl. Once the mixture is thoroughly mixed, add the dish soap. Stir until you get the consistency of “wet sand”. Then just insert it into silicone molds and let it dry for at least 4 hours. Once dry, carefully remove them from the mold and store them in a cool, dry place.
