Many singers are expected for the next edition of the Sanremo Festival. Among these, of course, we also find Gigi d’Alessio who yesterday gave an interview to Alberto Matano’s show, ‘La Vita in Diretta’. The famous Neapolitan singer-songwriter has received in recent days a much coveted recognition, that of Ambassador of Neapolitan Song. Gigi appeared honored with the recognition and revealed to the mics that he was one of many.

In fact, D’Alessio wanted to praise his city saying, “It’s the city of music, it’s the city that gave birth to the most beautiful songs known in the world.” it’s also a big responsibility, it’s a city full of artists”. As we mentioned earlier, Gigi d’Alessio was discovered by Mario Merola. So now the singer wanted to remember who made his debut on the music scene, saying: “Mario Merola is the one who risked 40 years ago putting his name next to mine. Mario had never made duets, I had been playing with him since the piano, 1990 then in 1992 I made my first record” – he then continued – “I was his pianist and one evening, almost for fun, coming back from a concert, I said that I would like to make a record and he asked me ‘Why do you also know how to sing?’.

After discussing this anecdote with his teacher, Gigi d’Alessio also wanted to talk about Neapolitan song in general. Indeed, the Neapolitan artist said: “The Neapolitan song is full of feelings, every song is a movie”. To conclude the interview, however, Gigi d’Alessio rejected any voice that saw him ready to return to the stage of the Ariston Theater in Sanremo with his son LDA. A decision that left a bad taste in the mouths of all his fans.
