Before Disney bought Marvel Entertainment and founded Marvel Studios, early movies adapted for the MCU were distributed by Paramount Pictures, such as “Iron Man” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Both characters earned their own franchises, which spawned successful trilogies.
On the other hand, characters like the Hulk haven’t been developed into more than one solo film.
The character’s only solo movie involving the MCU was “The Incredible Hulk,” released in 2008 by Universal Pictures, which owns the rights to Emerald Goliath.
Indeed, much like Sony does with “Spider-Man,” Hulk could only make cameos in the Marvel shared universe as per the requirements of Universal, which lends the character to the MCU to this day.
However, the rights to Hulk may be acquired by Marvel Studios in 2023.

While doing a thorough search, a Reddit user discovered a document from 2006, stating that:
“Paramount Pictures will have the right to exercise its distribution rights for a period of 15 years from the initial theatrical release of the first MCU film financed and produced by Marvel Entertainment.”
Another part of the document recalls the same terms for Universal Pictures:
“Universal Studios has agreed to distribute the Marvel film The Incredible Hulk and its sequels on substantially the same terms as Paramount has agreed to distribute other films financed and produced under Marvel’s supervision.”
As “The Incredible Hulk” turns 15 in 2023, it looks like Marvel could finally acquire the rights to the character sometime next year.
At the beginning of the publication, the Internet user still mentions a rumor about a possible adaptation of ‘Hulk Against the World’, an acclaimed comic created by Greg Pak and illustrated by John Romita Jr between 2007 and 2008.

“I did a lot of research on this a few weeks ago and posted about Universal’s distribution rights regarding Hulk and Namor. I argued with another user about this, this contract had an end date. I suggested not to, but since the ‘Hulk Against the World’ rumors started to pick up steam, I ended up digging through some old files and signs indicate that Universal’s Hulk distribution deal will revert to Marvel in June 2023.
Recalling that the Hulk’s next appearance will be in the series “She-Hulk: Defender of Heroes”, which will debut on Disney+ on August 18th.
The plot follows Jennifer Walters (Maslany), a lawyer specializing in superhuman legal cases, begins to gain Hulk-like powers after receiving an emergency blood transfusion from Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), her cousin.
“This new comedy series sees Bruce Banner help his cousin, Jennifer Walters, when she needs an emergency blood transfusion and guess what? She also receives her powers. Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer, who is a lawyer specializing in superhuman legal cases, while Mark Ruffalo returns as the Hulk alongside Tim Roth the Abomination.
The cast also includes Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga, Griffin Mathews, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Josh Segarra. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion will make guest appearances in the production.
Kevin Feige, Creative Director of Marvel Studios, said the series will have 10 episodes of about 30 minutes each.
