Moto GP changes ‘master’ after six months and Francesco Bagnaia is currently +14 over the Frenchman on Yamaha and +27 over Alexi Espargaro with Aprila. In Malaysia, in fact, it will be the first mach point of the world championship for ‘Pecco’. Australia was undoubtedly a stage full of emotions and full of intensity. For Bagnaia, courage and composure played a fundamental role, which allowed him to achieve the big result without getting discouraged or overdoing it. The other Italians also put in excellent performances with Marco Bezzecchi winning at the foot of the podium ahead of the two Ducatis who completed the show: Enea Bastianini and Luca Marini. There are still two races to go before the end of Moto GP 2022, but for Bagnaia, the stage in Malaysia could be decisive. The Piedmontese rider is at the top of the classification but he still lacks 50 points to crown the victory. Therefore, a series of “astral conjunctures” is necessary, but in Sepang the “Pecco” could become the 2022 drivers’ world champion. In fact, with third place in Australia and the fall of Quartararo (who concluded the race at Philip Island outside the points), the ‘Pecco’ could achieve this coveted goal by the Sachsenring, when, even at -91 from the French Yamaha rider, he never gave up hope. And in four months, the disadvantage has even turned into an advantage.

Even if it is with caution (and even avoidance), it is not inappropriate to believe that Francesco Bagnaia can win the title at Sepang. It will have to be faultless, but after the success in Moto2 in 2018, the second world title for ‘Pecco’ could arrive in Malaysia. A goal that could be achieved with a series of combinations: win and hope that Quartararo does not do better than 4th place; finish 2nd on a 7th Quartararo and a non-winning Aleix Espargaro. But for ‘Pecco’ it would also be enough to finish third if Espargaro leaves the podium and Quartararo does not exceed 11th place. And with Aleix Espargaro out of the podium and Quartararo out of the points, Francesco Bagnaia could even become world champion by finishing 5th.
