Pasta is a food that Italians cannot do without. It is consumed every day, but many do not dwell on the brand they decide to buy. Obviously, there are other top brands and many factors that make them so. Certainly in the supermarket there are many brands and they all seem identical to us, but this is absolutely not the case. The fundamental thing to do is to read the label: from there we can understand if there are any pesticides that are harmful to our health.
Among the most harmful pesticides, there are certainly glyphosates. Unfortunately, many people still focus only on affordability or the format they prefer. Experts are increasingly collaborating with the magazines most purchased by consumers to educate them on how to make informed and healthier purchases. Of course, we are not trying to steer consumers towards a particular brand, but rather towards certain characteristics.
The objective is to help the population to choose quality products, in particular without the presence of chemical products. Traces of pesticides and glyphosate are increasingly found. These are legally permitted substances, but they are used disproportionately for the cultivation of raw materials. Some studies have highlighted the possibility that this substance is carcinogenic, but officially carcinogenicity in humans has not been demonstrated with absolute certainty. On the AIRC website, glyphosate is listed as a probable carcinogen.
Even in case of uncertainty, consumers must be informed to be free to avoid buying brands where this substance is present. Often, for an undergraduate science consumer, even reading the label, it is difficult to recognize pesticides, which is why increasingly commonly used magazines give way to news like this. The last study on pesticides contaminating pasta dates back to a few months ago.
The news was published by a Swiss consumer magazine: it was found that for most of the eighteen brands analyzed, no pesticides or glyphosate were found. Many of them are brands that produce pasta organically, therefore naturally free of substances harmful to humans and the environment. On the brands which, on the other hand, pesticides were detected, it was considered useful to carry out additional studies to investigate the matter. Experts in the sector conclude by always advising to read labels carefully, to document as much as possible using all the means at our disposal and to favor the purchase of whole pasta.
