After years without wearing the Superman costume, Henry Cavill reprized the role in the post-credits “Black Adam” scene, teasing his future in the DCU.
And, during an interview with Screen Rant, the star said he was looking forward to showing a more hopeful Superman on the big screen, and with a more uplifting image for audiences.
“There are a lot of conversations to be had. I have a very deep connection with the character. And there is something extraordinarily special about him; extraordinarily special in his ability to give himself and to love his neighbour. I don’t mean romantically; I mean your love for the Earth and the people who live there. He has the ability to make people feel powerful – make people feel like Superman himself.
He added:
“I have a lot of ideas about that, of course, ideas that will be discussed later. But the most important thing is that the audience comes out of the cinema and feels like they can fly, not literally, but that “He’s inspired to protect and give for each other. That would be my goal.”
Have fun watching:
Previously, Cavill explained to Happy Sad Confused (via Comic Book) that wearing Superman’s cape is a big responsibility, something that goes way beyond the movies.
In his statement, he said he has a lot of love for his fans and the character represents goodness in the world.
“I learned a lot from Superman. I’ve been playing this character for too long to understand what he means. When you play a character like that, you feel as responsible to the audience as you do to the camera. Wearing this cape has taught me so much about myself and the world, as well as the power of important characters like Superman and what he means to so many people.
Recalling that “Man of Steel 2” is already in development at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Apparently, the sequel was only stuck in limbo because of former DC Studios boss Walter Hamada not wanting the actor back.
Hamada, a four-year-old DC Films executive who is now leaving, was largely responsible for leaving Cavill’s iteration of the hero “in the fridge,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hamada had his own plans for the franchise, one of them involving the introduction of an alternate version, scripted by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and therefore wanted no Superman involvement in Black Adam, but those plans have recently changed. .
By all accounts, the change of command was instrumental in achieving this goal, including David Zaslav (CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery) and Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy (Chairmen of Warner Bros. Pictures). All three had this “intense desire” to take over Cavill’s iteration.
However, Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks Productions are really responsible for Cavill’s return. The star and her brand, one of the most influential in Hollywood today, have been pushing for this to happen for years.
After Hamada’s negative responses, Johnson decided to contact De Luca and Abdy directly, who gave a thumbs up. An intense round of negotiations took place before Labor Day, a deadline imposed by the studio, and everything worked out.
