In 2021, Prime Video released a new musical adaptation of the classic “Cinderella” starring Camila Cabello.

The reimagining even brought in Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother. More than a year later, the production attracted the attention of prejudiced and conservative celebrities who criticized the film because Porter starred in it.

The comments began when actor Carlos Vereza posted a video saying Porter’s casting as the fairy godmother is a continuing attempt by Hollywood to “destroy the sexuality of children.” It didn’t take long for another conservative actress and bolsonarist, Regina Duarte, to share the video and share the same sentiment as her former Globo colleague.

Duarte made the post on his social media and wrote, “Help moms and dads. Aunts and uncles, grandparents, parents in general, true Brazilian childhood friends: Disney’s Cinderella [sic] threatens the values of our children! “.

Have fun watching:

In another post, Duarte wrote: “thanks for the alert, Vereza! You’re absolutely right. We have to protect (sic) our children”.

Internet users were quick to take a stand against the words of the former actress, accusing her of homophobia.

The only good thing about this movie is that fairy godfather, the rest of the movie I didn’t like, but hey, that’s my opinion.
Regina Duarte is just a layman.

Conservative logic:
this one, which has nothing to do with the old fairy, but is white and “straight”, can // this one not because she “doesn’t look like” the fairy in the drawing pic.twitter. com/hTZP3cIJ9m

Review | ‘Cinderella’ Wastes a Talented Cast With a Forgettable, Unidentified Narrative

Cinderella is a bold new musical take on the traditional story that audiences grew up with. Our heroine (Cabello) is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world allows, but with the help of her Fab G (Porter), she is able to persevere and achieve her dreams.

Written for the screen and directed by Kay Cannon, featuring covers of songs written by some of the best-selling musical artists of all time, “Cinderella” has an all-star cast that includes Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, with Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan.

The producers are James Corden, Leo Pearlman, Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh.
