HBO Max CANCELS popular teen series before it even launches

According to the Wall Street Journal, HBO Max has decided to cancel the reboot of “Degrassi,” a popular teen series from the 1970s, before it was even released.

The production, which had been greenlit for 10 episodes, was dropped by the streaming service. Filming was supposed to start a few months ago in Toronto.

The reason for the abrupt cancellation even after filming has not been revealed.

Lara Azzopardi (“The Bold Type”) and Julia Cohen (“Riverdale”) would serve as showrunners.

The plot would focus on a new group of teenagers after they are hit by an unexpected event that unites and haunts them.

The project would mark the franchise’s sixth chapter, following “The Kids of Degrassi Street” (1979-1986), “Degrassi Junior High” (1987-1989), “Degrassi High” (1989-1991), “Degrassi: The Next Generation’ (2001-2015) and ‘Degrassi: Next Class’ (2016-2017).
