‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ Star Gary Oldman Announces Retirement

Known for several iconic characters such as Sirius Black, Commissioner Gordon and Dracula, veteran actor Gary Oldman has announced that he will be retiring soon.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the star said Apple TV+’s spy series ‘Slow Horses’ would be his last work as an actor.

Thereafter, he intends to devote his time to interests outside the film industry.

“I’ve had an enviable career, but careers are getting scarcer and I have other things that interest me besides acting. When you are young, you think you can realize all your ideas, so the years go by. I will be 65 next year; the 70s are coming. I don’t want to be here when I’m 80. I would be very happy, honored and privileged to come out as Jackson Lamb [seu personagem em ‘Slow Horses’ ] – then leave.

Among his most notable works, Oldman also brought Lee Harvey Oswald, assassin of US President John Kennedy, to life in “JFK – The Question You Won’t Hush” (1991).

His resume also includes ‘The Professional’ (1994), ‘The 5th Element’ (1997), ‘Hannibal’ (2001), the remake of ‘Robocop’ (2014) and ‘Mank’ (2020), which earned him a Oscar nomination for best actor.

Recall that ‘Slow Horses’ has already been renewed for the 3rd and 4th seasons, and the 2nd premiere is scheduled for December 2.

The series is based on the bestselling book franchise by Mick Herron, adapted by Emmy winner Will Smith (“Veep”) and directed by James Hawes.

“Slow Horses” follows a team of British intelligence agents working in MI5’s “deportation department” – Slough House. Oldman plays Jackson Lamb, the brilliant and irascible leader of these spies, who ends up in Slough House because of the serious mistakes he made towards the end of his career.

Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Jack Lowden and Olivia Cooke are also part of the cast.
