“The meeting took place in an atmosphere of unity of purpose and maximum cordiality and collaboration. The Brothers of Italy and Forza Italia will present themselves with the other forces of the coalition during the next consultations with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella”. So we read in a joint note from FdI and FI following today’s long-awaited meeting between the two leaders.

During the summit “they took stock of the most urgent economic issues, starting with expensive energy, a subject which will, among other things, be at the center of the next European Council”.

The meeting lasted about an hour and a half and began with Giorgia Meloni who went to meet Silvio Berlusconi to welcome him at the entrance to the headquarters of Fratelli d’Italia via della Scrofa in Rome. No one else attended the interview. All the parties of the majority will therefore present themselves together at Colle for consultations with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.

We are therefore moving towards the relaxation of relations, with the centre-right, in the decisive week for an agreement on the formation of the new government. The dialogue between FdI and FI had cracked on the day of the vote at the Palazzo Madama for the election of the President of the Senate, which was interrupted after the publication of Berlusconi’s notes, in which the Cav described Meloni as “obstinate, arrogant, arrogant and offensive”. The response of the leader of the FdI is just as clear: “There is a point missing in Berlusconi’s notes: I am not subject to blackmail”.
