“Friday the 13th”: The legal battle comes to an END; Will we have a new movie?

The legal battle for the rights of the film ‘Friday the 13th’ is finally over! According to attorney Larry Zerner, screenwriter Victor Miller won the lawsuit and currently owns the script rights to the original feature film (US only).

What does this mean for the future of the franchise and Jason Voorhees? Could a new movie be released soon? Not really.

“[O roteirista] Victor Miller and [o diretor] Is Sean Cunningham free to develop his own films based on the franchise? No! Victor only has the rights to the script of the first film, only in the United States. And while Sean has the rights to iconic adult Jason in the hockey mask, he cannot legally use it in a movie without Victor’s permission, ”the lawyer reveals.

Can Victor and Sean each make their own separate movies? Not really, as Victor only owns the US rights and only to the first script, and Sean owns full-grown Jason, wearing a hockey mask, but cannot legally use it in a movie without Victor’s permission. It is complicated. 4 /

In the end, it is almost impossible to develop a new film in the “Friday the 13” franchise without both parties reaching an agreement, because of this divide in the rights of the saga.

The expectation is that Victor and Sean reach a consensus, following together, for the development of a new film.
