Films by Kate Winslet, curiosities and Leonardo DiCaprio

Icon of British cinema, Kate Winslet is blowing out 47 candles today and is about to surprise us with a new performance. Charismatic, talented and precursor of body positive, she always gives her all, sometimes even at the risk of her own health.

He worried his fans a few weeks ago. Engaged in Croatia on the set of the new film Lee, centered on the photographer Lee Miller, Kate Winslet had even found herself in the hospital, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. Fortunately, nothing serious for the British artist who is celebrating his 47th birthday today and who is still as unstoppable as ever. A characteristic that has always distinguished her, that of identifying herself to the point of pushing herself well beyond her limits, which she has never let herself be beaten down. Not only on set, but also off set, indeed, the British icon has never spared herself, reaffirming the importance of authenticity. An ideal which, on certain occasions, has proved particularly difficult to pursue.

Kate Winslet shows us that there are no limits

“When I was younger, when I was only 14, an acting teacher told me that I could only be an actress if I just did chubby girl roles.” On the occasion of the BAFTA acceptance speech in 2016 for her performance in Steve Jobs by Danny Boyle, Kate Winslet remembered this episode of her adolescence. Who knows what this teacher would say now, in the face of his seven Oscar nominations – including one he won for The Reader – A Loud Voice – and the many other awards he won. One cannot imagine the impact that these words, received at a very delicate age like adolescence, could have had on her at the time. But we know what they have made of her now: an actress in constant search of authenticity.

Since the days of James Cameron’s Titanic, which consecrated her for good, Kate Winslet has shown her stuff in this regard. Alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, with whom an extraordinary friendship was born, also confirmed on the set of Revolutionary Road, he enchanted the public with his performance. But perhaps not everyone knows that she identified herself so extraordinarily well in the role of young Rose DeWitt Bukater, that in the scenes in the water, she chose not to wear a scuba. The pale blue color her lips took on in the film’s final acts is actually not the result of the makeup department, but a natural reaction of her body to the harsh temperatures. Moreover, for his decision, the interpreter would also have caught pneumonia.

His records: one of them is incredible

What seem to many to be limits are therefore opportunities for Kate Winslet. The British performer manages to seize opportunities even where anyone would see an insurmountable undertaking. He did it, for example, with the director of Murder in Easttown, preventing him from retouching his natural signs of aging from promotional posters. And she did, completely unexpectedly — even by herself — on the set of the Avatar sequel. The sequel to James Cameron’s blockbuster, which will make its cinema debut in December, has indeed allowed the interpreter to break a record thanks to what seems to be the natural element closest to her: water.

Kate Winslet indeed resisted in apnea for seven minutes, becoming the actress with the longest time interval to have succeeded. The feat, which the interpreter says today is sure of not being able to reproduce, allowed him to exceed the primacy of Tom Cruise, who had “stopped” at six minutes in Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprioMANIPULATE

To these are added others: she is indeed the only actress nominated for an Oscar in the younger role of another candidate for the same film. This was made possible thanks to Titanic, in the role of Rose – played in large version by Gloria Stuart, also contestant – and Iris – A true love, in the role shared with Judi Dench by Iris Murdoch. In addition, Kate Winslet is the youngest actress to receive ten Golden Globe nominations and, moreover, the youngest to receive six Oscar nominations, surpassing the record of Bette Davis. Not bad for someone who should have been content with the “plump” role.
