Ferzan Özpetek, new film from Nuovo Olimpo: plot, cast and release

Three years after The Goddess of Fortune, Ferzan Özpetek returns to the world of feature films with Nuovo Olimpo. The project will carry the Netflix brand and will see at the center of events a love story between two men that will take place over four decades. So let’s find out what to expect.

Just a few months ago, Ferzan Özpetek finished his first television series, produced for the Disney+ platform and based on one of his most famous titles: The ignorant fairies – The series. Now, the Turkish-naturalized Italian director is back behind the camera with another project, set to be used on Netflix on this occasion. It is not a soap opera, but a film whose title has been revealed: Nuovo Olimpo. With his innate delicacy, Özpetek returns with the tale of a homosexual love story between two men that develops over several decades, but that the adversities of life and, an unexpected event, will make tortuous and impermeable.

Three years after the “lucky” The Goddess of Luck, which grossed over 8 million euros and won two David di Donatellos, Ferzan Özpetek’s creative force is expanding, finding another form at Nuovo Olimpo. Just today, November 14, the director made the film’s Rome premiere, as announced by Netflix. Based on what has been leaked, the story will begin in the late 70s and will see two young male protagonists. Young, beautiful, just 25 years old, they will meet by pure chance and they will be struck by love at first sight, the one that strikes only once in a lifetime and which turns into an overwhelming love at first sight. A chance event will separate them, but the two will continue for the next three decades, hoping to find each other again.

To play the role of the two protagonists will be Damiano Gavino and Andrea Di Luigi. In addition to the cast of the film, which is about to be among the most anticipated Italian titles for next year, Ferzan Özpetek has recruited: Luisa Ranieri, Greta Scarano, Giancarlo Commare, Alvise Rigo and Aurora Giovinazzo.
