“Fast and Furious 9”: John Cena apologizes for calling Taiwan a country; Understand!

On Monday (24), John Cena took a misstep by calling Taiwan a country during an interview with Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS, while broadcasting “Fast and Furious 9”.

As it turns out, the Chinese government views Taiwan as a rebellious province, not an independent nation … and Cena’s statement ended up annoying Chinese fans.

To reverse the situation, the star accessed his profile on Weibo (sort of Chinese Twitter) and apologized for the mistake.

“I love and respect China and the Chinese. I’m really, really sorry for my mistake. I apologize, I am so sorry. You have to understand that I really love and respect China and its people. So I apologize, ”he said, fluent in Mandarin.

The controversy is explained by the fact that Taiwan’s friction with China poses problems that are reflected in other countries, since China is one of the largest export markets for various raw materials.

In addition, the country is also a large consumer of television and film productions, representing the second largest film market in the world, after the United States.

With that in mind, any slippage could mean losing a good box office deal to “Fast and Furious 9”.

In 2019, China even suspended business with the National Basketball Association of the United States (NBA) because one of the leaders caused an international incident by showing support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

Recalling that ‘Fast and Furious 9’ will be released in national theaters on July 22.
