Expensive bills have hit Rome’s historic Gelateria Fassi again. After the “monster” electricity bill of 17,000 euros, here came another sting for the entrepreneur Andrea Fassi, owner of the company: more than 20,000 euros. Among the options for resisting this unpredictable price increase, there is not the definitive closure of the place, but rather a possible one-month shutdown: “But I don’t know, because I don’t know how long it will last this historic moment.
A legitimate doubt, to which is linked a governmental transition which, from Draghi to Meloni, will have to provide new answers precisely in the area of bills: “Given that the problem is getting worse – underlined Fassi -, I believe that an intervention needs to be made a little more drastic,” such as calming prices or taking resources from the extra profits of companies that produce energy, according to the entrepreneur. And speaking with colleagues, the situation does not improve: “Everyone complains and is afraid of the unpredictability, it’s worse than the Covid”.

What are the causes of the high bill?
For several months, the high electricity and gas bill has forced families in Italy to face a continuous (and almost uncontrolled) increase in costs, which puts a strain on the quality of life of all of us.
Behind this insane price increase, however, there are very specific causes. The first, of course, concerns the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which nevertheless produced negative effects on various trade sectors, such as the increase in raw materials and carbon dioxide.
However, it should be pointed out that already in December 2021 an increase in expensive bills had however been recorded due to the Covid pandemic which caused the imbalance between supply and demand due to the numerous confinements put in place to protect us from the virus. And even part of the blame lies with the weather, as last winter’s conditions would have been so harsh that they would have required greater amounts of gas than usual.
In any case, to face crazy increases, ARERA, the Energy, Networks and Environment Regulatory Authority, with the complicity of the Draghi government, blocked the increase in the price of electricity bill at + 59%: half good news, because before this intervention the expected increase was 100%.
