“I wonder if he could be a representation of therapy in our lives, someone who is there to listen to us let off steam. And Buzz goes through a lot of changes. He has just returned and the world is no longer the same and he must adapt to this new context. Sox is there to help him through it all, and he doesn’t even ask the tough questions. He’s there in case Buzz needs to vent and trust someone and it’s extremely therapeutic.”

And for filmmaker and actress Taika Waititi, animation invites audiences to learn to forgive the past and appreciate the things and people around us:

“One of the key messages is that you don’t have to let your mistakes and your past determine who you are or what you will become. You don’t have to let it control you, your present or your future. If you forgive yourself and let the past go, it won’t hold you back and you can move on. Another powerful message is that in this lifetime we will be given many opportunities which may seem incredible, but it is important that we appreciate what we already have. The neighbor’s grass isn’t always greener.

Chris Evans also reflected on the importance of valuing the legacy of the character Buzz Lightyear, first introduced in 1995, through the iconic classic “Toy Story”. In an interview with CinePOP, he commented on the connection between the two versions and how Tim Allen – responsible for the original voice of the toy – inspired him in his work.

“There is a connection between the two characters. This Buzz Lightyear that I play is the character that the Toy Story toy is based on, so it was necessary for me to dig into that and try to figure out who that character would be, to manifest the character that actor Tim Allen has created. And not only that, he’s done an amazing job, so I’d be a fool not to be inspired by what he’s done.”

Recalling that “Lightyear” will be presented on June 16 in national cinemas.
