The official trailer for Emancipation – Beyond Freedom, a film directed and produced by Antoine Fuqua which stars Will Smith as the protagonist, has just been released.
From December 9 will be available on AppleTV + Emancipation – Beyond Freedom, a film which stars Will Smith as the protagonist and which was produced and directed by Antoine Fuqua.
After winning an Oscar tainted by the notorious episode that got him kicked out of the Academy for ten years, Will Smith, winner of the coveted statuette for his role in King Richard – A Winning Family, is now preparing to interpret in Emancipation the slave Pierre.
Emancipation: the plot of the film
Emancipation – Beyond Freedom is therefore a film centered on Peter (Will Smith), a man who manages to escape slavery and is forced to constantly watch his back against the hunters who pursue him in the swamps of Louisiana.
The film is based on a true story, that of Whipped Peter who manages to escape in 1863 and is the subject of several photographic shots taken the same year in Harper’s Weekly: among these the famous one which shows the whipped back and scarred image of the man, a photo of great importance to the anti-slavery movement.
The film, based on a very delicate theme and unfortunately still more than current, therefore promises to be extremely raw, with the film which could in some ways recall another very famous film like 12 Years a Slave.
