Chloe Zhao is gradually becoming one of the most prolific filmmakers in the contemporary film scene and, after bringing home two Oscar statues (Best Picture and Best Director for ‘Nomadland’) and overseeing the upcoming ‘The Eternals’, the filmmaker is already thinking of a future and daring project: “Dracula”.
Zhao’s version will not only be a reinterpretation of the classic Bram Stoker novel, but a futuristic build, described as “a science fiction western”.
In a recent interview with Variety, the director opened up about her unique take on the iconic character and why she chose him as a project.
“It’s like looking at the book [‘Nomadland’] by Jessica Bruder and really looking beyond the pages, discovering the meaning of each page and the essence of each. I am a huge fan of the book. And I wanted to see what I could find and be able to reinvent a character that I love so much ”.
She continues: “I love complicated characters. It’s an important book for me. Immortality is something that I started to explore in “The Eternals”, but it’s something that I want to question to understand ”.
The film is being developed by Universal Pictures.
New information should be published soon.
