One of the most loved foods in the world is undoubtedly Nutella, but be careful, we try not to get carried away with its endless benefits and we are always on the alert, checking the expiry date indicated on the label and avoiding abuse. As for the expiry date, the latter is not a real limit, since it indicates the day when it is recommended to consume this particular product, that is, it is absolutely not a question of a date to be underestimated, because it could involve risks, even quite serious, for our health, but in any case if it expires the day before it can be consumed without worrying too much.

Nutella also contains carbohydrates, which are mostly simple (disaccharides), such as sucrose and low in lactose. These occupy only 9% of the total simple sugars to include in a diet. However, based on what is mentioned in the “Recommended nutritional intake levels for the Italian population”, taking into account a diet of around 2000 kcal, the right amount of simple carbohydrates should be included, at least maximum, between 53 and 64 g for adults (i.e. 10-12% of total energy) and between 80 and 85 g for children (i.e. 15-16% of total energy).

Nutella is now one of the most consumed foods of all time, but this huge spread is mainly due to its versatility. It is precisely for this factor that it is so popular with adults and children. Therefore, to protect the most delicate health of the little ones, we pay special attention to the expiry date. Exceeding the expiration date of a product by several weeks is a serious health risk.

Often, however, this happens unconsciously, because perhaps having bought it recently we are sure that it is still good but that is not always the case. The expiry date on the label is not the only factor to consider when deciding whether a product is in good condition or not. It is also necessary to evaluate the color of Nutella, its consistency, its smell, and finally, in rare cases, even its taste.

As for the color, a jar of Nutella which unfortunately has gone bad, has a black color (much darker than usual), the consistency is very hard, the smell is pungent and almost unpleasant and finally the taste is strongly bitter. . In some cases, which occur when a long time has elapsed from the expiration date or when the product has not been properly stored, the product may show mold or other visual abnormalities.
