To increase its expansion in the face of competition from streaming, Disney has decided to launch a platform for adults, StarPlus. To strengthen the new brand, all of the old Fox channels in Brazil were renamed Star earlier this year.

However, the company Starz Entertainment has launched a lawsuit in an attempt to prevent Disney from using the Star name on the new streaming service and its other channels.

To avoid further misunderstandings, the studio decided to pay R $ 50 million compensation to Starz for using the StarPlus nomenclature.

The company accepted the compensation and withdrew from the process. The São Paulo Court of Justice case page already contains the waiver update.

As such, Disney is launching StarPlus on August 31, with 66 new original productions created in Latin America.

Streaming will show movies and series that were not included in the Disney + catalog.

Star + will also offer live broadcasts of sporting events such as CONMEBOL Libertadores, Premier League, LaLiga, NHL, MLB and tennis, rugby, cycling, golf, boxing and MMA, among other sports.
