The debut of the erotic thriller Deep Water, starring Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck, has been canceled by 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox), the mature content division of The Walt Disney Company.
Originally, the feature would hit theaters on January 13, 2022 in Brazil, and would be released worldwide the next day. The information was revealed by EW magazine.
The studio has decided not to comment on the decision to remove the film from its upcoming premiere schedule, nor has it revealed whether a new release date will be planned.
In the plot, Vic and Melinda Van Allen are an attractive young couple whose mind games take a turn when the people around them start to be dead. The couple avoid divorce in a loveless marriage, allowing each to have their own lovers, but everything is turned upside down when the facade of American suburban life is exposed.
The feature film is based on the eponymous book written by Patricia Highsmith and will be director Adrian Lyne’s first film in nearly two decades. One of his most famous productions is ‘Fatal Attraction’.
The cast also includes Tracy Letts, Rachel Blanchard, Dash Mihok, Jacob Elordi, Kristen Connolly, Jade Fernandez and Lil Rel Howety.
