The new Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, is preparing an ordinance on the subject of Covid and in particular quarantine and tampons.

He announced it himself during the Porta a Porta show on Rai Uno. “I think that asymptomatic Covid-positive patients, after 4 or 5 days, can resume normal activity,” Schillaci said in response to conductor Bruno Vespa. “Even those with mild symptoms can come back sooner, after at least 24 hours without fever. Perhaps with some precautions like the mask, to protect the most fragile.”

The theme is precisely that of the farewell to tampons at the end of the quarantine, a theme which will be addressed in “an ordinance that we are developing”. “The only two states that have fined the unvaccinated and then revoked them are Austria and Greece. For now they have stayed with us, let’s see if there will be any action in this direction by Parliament “, added Schillaci. These are penalties for citizens over 50 who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19. The elimination of these fines should have been done through a government amendment to the Aiuti ter Decree-Law, which was not subsequently presented.

The comparison with the flu

We are in an “endemic Covid” phase. And “to return to normal, we must take the same precautions that we had before for the flu”, explained the minister to Porta a Porta on November 16. “When you were sick with the flu – he added – as soon as the symptoms stopped, you went back to work. Today, we are even more responsible in this area and we use the mask when we are in the presence of more fragile people.

Covid, the Gemmato affair

Speaking on the controversy following statements by Health Undersecretary Marcello Gemmato on Covid vaccines, Schillaci said: “The undersecretary has clarified his position. He was vaccinated, he is a pharmacist, a category that has contributed a lot to the pandemic vaccination. His position is completely clear and in line with what the Prime Minister said at the G20 in Bali”. “As the Prime Minister said – he added – Italy will make a great contribution to the future fight against other pandemics.”

Returning to the fight against Covid, in recent days the director general of health prevention of the Ministry of Health, Gianni Rezza (the same since the start of the pandemic) had clarified a key point. Over time, he told a conference in Milan, “we understood that we would have to live with this virus. We are therefore now in the phase of coexistence. We have changed the paradigm, we no longer seek to completely block viral circulation but to protect the most fragile people.
