Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) started a feud over 35 years ago in “ The Karate Kid, ” when Daniel moved to All Valley and stole Johnny’s girlfriend Ali Mills ( Elisabeth Shue).

However, Zabka and Macchio have maintained a great friendship since 1984, when the film opened, and are very proud to reprise their roles in the “Cobra Kai” series.

During an interview for the comic, the stars spoke about it and explained how this friendship has evolved over the years.

“We’ve been friends for years and we get even closer by attending Comic Cons and pop culture events,” Zabka said. “But it was after our participation in” How I Met Your Mother “that this friendship was strengthened. After that, we were more and more present in everyone’s life.

He then explained how the idea of the “ Cobra Kai ” came about:

“That’s when we started to think about doing something together and the idea for the show was born. We wanted to work with something we both loved and found that we have more in common than we thought. I think people want Johnny and Daniel to have a friendship like ours offscreen.

Macchio joined the conversation and joked that the best thing about the relationship between the characters is this “back and forth” between friendship and rivalry.

“I think it’s fun, you know? This “back and forth” of Daniel is Johhny is what makes things more fun. William and I had a lot of fun building this feud between them… But, who knows, maybe they will become good friends in the future.
