According to Deadline, Showtime has canceled the critically acclaimed series “City on a Hill,” starring Kevin Bacon, after three seasons.
The news comes shortly after David Nevins left as chairman of Paramount Global, which subsidizes Showtime, and was replaced by Chris McCarthy.
However, the decision to cancel the show had nothing to do with the name change, but was quietly taken about a month ago.
In an official statement, Showtime said, “‘City on a Hill’ concluded its highly successful Showtime run with the Season 3 finale. We had the best experience working with Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge and all of the cast and the team, led by showrunner Tom Fontane and executive producers Jennifer Todd and Jorge Zamacona. We extend our most sincere thanks to all.

The series also starred Jonathan Tucker, Mark O’Brien, Jill Hennessy, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, Kevin Chapman, Jere Shea, and Sarah Shahi.
The production is set in early 1990s Boston and revolves around criminals emboldened by local law enforcement where corruption and racism were the norm. Here, assistant defense attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge) arrives from Brooklyn and forms an unexpected alliance with corrupt FBI veteran Jackie Rohr (Bacon). Together, they hunt down a family of Charlestown thieves in a case that grows exponentially and overturns Boston’s entire criminal system.
Chuck MacLean created and executive produced the series alongside showrunner Tom Fontana.
