The conditions for obtaining citizenship income have officially changed. In fact, in these hours the government is working on a reform of the measure introduced by the Conte I government, with important changes that will recover resources for around one billion euros. The Chairman of the Council’s objective is to guarantee the subsidy only to those who are unable to work. For those who qualify, a cut will most likely come.

Indeed, only the disabled, people in difficulty and people with dependent minors without adequate means of subsistence will maintain the subsidy. The objective is to reduce the number of beneficiaries, even by introducing the threshold of 60 years it will become disqualifying to remove or not the subsidy. From 2023, therefore, the requirements should change, among the hypotheses there is also the abolition of this one of those under 60 and able to work. There are several anticipations that have emerged about the upcoming reforms on the public good.

Giovanbattista Fazzolari took care of anticipating what could happen to citizenship income. Indeed, the Under-Secretary of the Prime Minister explained that those who are between 18 and 59 years old and who have no dependent children and can work will no longer be able to receive the allowance. Speaking to the microphones, Fazzolari clarified: “Those who cannot work cannot be treated like those who can. Those who cannot work must be protected even more than today. Those who can work should be encouraged. For this we are going to reduce the audience of Citizenship Income recipients”.

Instead, the income will be maintained for all the disabled, by those in difficulty, by those who have dependent minors and who do not have adequate means of subsistence. Finally, the Under-Secretary to the Presidency of the Council concluded: “The aim is to encourage employees by making them understand that the aim cannot be to receive this subsidy for life but rather to try to find a job with the state”. These are just some of the changes coming in 2023 to citizenship income.
