It had previously been stated that King Charles and Camilla would not move their residence to Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace. But it is very strange that these residences, which for centuries represented the heart of the British monarchy, remain empty. The new rulers, in fact, chose to keep Clarence House as their permanent residence.
The ruling couple could not move to Buckingham Palace for at least five years. This is due to the completion of the site renovation, estimated to cost a total of £370m. The work should be completed in 2027 and King Charles prefers to wait.

Some sources had claimed that Prince William and Princess Kate would have probably moved to Windsor Castle, to occupy at least one of the historic residences of the royal family. But even this castle, where Queen Elizabeth has spent the past few years, starting with the pandemic, will remain uninhabited.
Carlo and Camilla leave their residences in London empty
The Sun has denied news of William and Kate’s upcoming move to Windsor Castle. A source, in fact, said that now “there are no plans to leave Adelaide Cottage”. Although the new residence of the Princes of Wales is located in the residence of Windsor, the family does not intend to move. But Windsor and Buckingham Palace aren’t the only palaces Charles and Camilla have chosen to keep empty.

Balmoral Castle, a favorite of the late Queen Elizabeth II, is also expected to remain so. A source said it may be open to tourists in the near future. In the meantime, the new couple of sovereigns would be ready to share their time in other areas. Carlo and Camilla will continue to live at Clarence House, just 400 meters from Buckingham Palace, where they lived for 19 years. They will spend some time at Sandringham in Norfolk. The couple also have their idyllic private country residence, Highgrove House.

When he was Prince of Wales, Charles acquired the land and devoted much of his free time and energy to landscaping the garden around the house. According to experts, it is likely that the King and Queen will not move to Buckingham Palace even after the renovations. In the meantime, however, they will continue to use available spaces for work and official engagements. The choice of the Sovereign did not, however, enthuse the English people, who are not inclined to think of empty royal residences.
