For anyone who enjoyed Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities series, here’s a list of some of the best horror anthologies you can stream.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities has proven to be a real hit – here are some of the best horror anthologies you should definitely watch.

This past Halloween, a horror anthology series debuted that met with great acclaim from critics and audiences alike, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. This series, divided into eight different parts, revolved around several macabre tales directed by different directors, with del Toro as the host.

A well-received anthology overall thanks to the variety and quality of the stories told, fitting fans of the director well known for his nod to the horror genre. With the first season of the Cabinet of Curiosities now over, fans of this genre, to console themselves, have a wide choice at their disposal. Here are some of the best anthology horror series.

masters of horror

Masters of Horror is mostly based on short stories, such as Clive Baker’s Valerie on the Stairs and Richard Matheson’s Dance with the Devil. A series that also involves Del Toro himself, one of the directors invited to dinner by series creator Mike Harris.

The twilight zone

Twilight Zone, when it debuted, received mixed reviews, but it’s a series absolutely worth watching. Jordan Peele, executive producer of the second season, also worked directly on this anthology. The Twilight Zone is viewable on Paramount+.

black mirror

We then move on to Black Mirror, one of the most popular series of recent years that has gained prominence thanks to Netflix. A cold and unforgiving look at how technology can affect people’s lives. An anthology that has certainly caught on, with series creator Charlie Brooker bringing to life memorable yet disturbing episodes like The National Anthem and USSS Callister.

Time out stories

However, horror anthologies aren’t just and only for adults. In this regard, a series that can also and above all be suitable for young viewers is definitely Deadtime Stories. The series, based on the stories of Annette and Gina Cascone, is therefore aimed primarily at a young audience, while retaining the undertones of horror already present in the books. For example, the third episode The Witching Game, which is about the urban legend of Bloody Mary, is worth noting. A short but at the same time satisfying anthology, which can be seen on Prime Video.

just beyond

Absolutely noteworthy is also Just Beyond, available on Disney+. A series which is based on the graphic novel by RL Stine and which is divided into eight stories which mainly tell of witches, curses and alternate dimensions. A series for adults but which, like Deadtime Stories, also opens up to the youngest, with the horror genre which also mixes a certain dose of comedy.

Nightclub

Midnight Club centers on a group of teenagers, known as the Midnight Society, who gather around a bonfire in the evening. Each member of this group takes turns telling the others horror-themed stories. A series, available now on Paramount+, which has been a great success, also leading to the birth of two revival series in 1999 and 2019.

Tales from the Crypt

Finally, there’s Tales from the Crypt, perhaps the most famous series of its kind. Airing on HBO, this anthology was free from any TV-style restrictions, and the stories it contained benefited the most. It is a series that has seen the participation of several stars such as Ewan McGregor and Brad Pitt, and from which have also come many spin-offs and feature films, such as Tales from the crypt presents: demon knight.
