Bridgerton, scoop on the modified finale of the first season
Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s most beloved TV series, but what if the Season 1 finale was different? What if the authors had planned a different stage? This is how things were supposed to be in the beginning.
The final product is not always the one designed from the start and Bridgerton proves it too. The acclaimed television series set in the Regency era and brought to small screens Netflix by Shondaland would work on a different ending for the first season. Each chapter, like the novels of Julia Quinn, tells the love story of a member of the Bridgerton family. The first season closely followed debutante Daphne, the first woman in the family to enter wedding season and whose happy ending came courtesy of the Duke of Hastings.
The second season, meanwhile, followed with a wise eye the sentimental adventures of Anthony, the eldest son and now guide of the family after the death of his father. The third, still unpublished, will rather give more space to the love story between Penelope and Colin (until never taken off). And, while audiences eagerly await the release of new episodes, others continue to discover Bridgerton’s universe. The Season 1 finale was originally thought of differently. Bridgerton, how the season 1 finale changed
Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope aka Lady Whistledown in the Netflix TV series, revealed this interesting detail. Before we find out what the season finale was originally thought of as, let’s review the one actually shown to Netflix audiences. In the last episode of the first season, Daphne and Simon welcomed their child into the family, while the narrative side revealed the identity of Lady Whistledown, the nosy journalist so hated by Queen Charlotte.
As Nicola Coughlan said at Netflix’s TUDUM event, the writers changed that step. Like the novels of Julia Quinn, in fact, the identity of the journalist should have remained a mystery for a long time and certainly not revealed in the first season. In the novels, indeed, it is only revealed who Lady Whistledown is in the fourth volume. The actress who plays her said: “A different ending was filmed where they would have made it look like the reporter was actually Cressida Cowper.”
At first, when Nicola Coughlan auditioned for Bridgerton, she had no idea what her character’s second identity was. “When we auditioned, we knew very little about the show. It wasn’t until after I joined the show that I found out there was, when I went to read news on a fans where I realized there was a huge fandom behind these books. It was like a whole new world opened up when I read: ‘When Penelope revealed herself as Lady Whistledown’. Here, this discovery shocked me”.
