US President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a phone conversation overnight. Among the various topics discussed, “they reaffirmed their commitment to continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, to hold Russia to account for its responsibility in the aggression, to meet the challenges posed by China and to guarantee sustainable and affordable sources of energy”.
Palazzo Chigi announced that President Meloni thanked Biden for the congratulations and reiterated the deep friendship between Italy and the United States of America.
The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of the transatlantic partnership, particularly in light of the historic challenges facing Western democracies, such as the war in Ukraine and the energy and food crisis.
Meloni and Biden “underscored the strong relationship between the United States and Italy and expressed their willingness to work together in the transatlantic alliance to address common challenges.”
