Last year, Indie Wire magazine reported that the Brazilian film “ Bacurau ” was listed as a candidate for an Oscar seat in 2021 and could compete in the category of best foreign film.
However, the feature film directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles was excluded from the nominations.
In 2020, the film had already lost its place in favor of the also Brazilian “ A Vida Invisível ”, directed by Karim Ainouz.
Even so, since “Bacurau” was released in North American theaters last year, there was a chance of becoming eligible for all categories of fiction films … which did not happen.
The plot of the film takes place in a small village in the Brazilian hinterland, where its inhabitants will have to face the invasion of foreign assassins who intend to take control of the region.
Recalling that the films nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscar 2021 were ‘Druk’ (Denmark), ‘Better Days’ (Hong Kong), ‘Collective’ (Romania), ‘The Man Who Sold His Skin’ (Tunisia ), “Quo Vadis, Aida?” (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
The 93rd edition of the Oscar will be held on April 25, 2021, with the presentation of none other than Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas.
