From his beginnings in the 1950s, as a commercial illustrator, until the last decade of activity in the 1980s, characterized by a particular relationship to the sacred. These are the salient aspects that characterize Andy Warhol: the publicity of form.

A unique exhibition in Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore which celebrates and pays homage to the career of one of the greatest artists of contemporary history, famous throughout the world: Andy Warhol. More than three hundred works are exhibited, divided into seven spaces and thirteen sections, to give a broad breath of life to the immense production that spans more than 40 years of artistic creations.

Andy Warhol still contemporary

The Andy Warhol: Advertising of Form exhibition is promoted and produced by the Municipality of Milan – Culture and Navigare, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva with Edoardo Falcioni for Art Motors, BMW and Hublot Partners. It will be accessible to visitors from October 22, 2022 to March 26, 2023 in Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore. A journey through the works of one of the artists who, with his contribution, gave particular innovation to the history of art in the world. As the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Milan, Tommaso Sacchi, comments: “More than seventy years after the creation of the first pieces that open the exhibition, the works of Warhol still meet the taste and favor of the public. Often proving to be current and able to convey immediate visual messages about today’s society”.

The city councilor further comments: “Those of Warhol are icons who knew and still know how to live in the contemporary world in circles. Breaking out of the perimeter traced by the institutional places of culture and leaving deep traces in various fields such as fashion, music and advertising”. Bonito Oliva’s definition of Andy Warhol referring to him as the “Raphael of American mass society who brings to surface all the depths of the image is very suggestive. Thus making it immediately usable, ready to be consumed like any product that clutters our daily lives. He thus developed an unprecedented classicism in his aesthetic transformation. Thus the publicity of the form creates the epiphany, that is to say the appearance, of the image”.

From Rome to Milan

The Milan exhibition also comes after the success of the 2018 exhibition at Complesso del Vittoriano. As an official note reveals, in this context, Eugenio Falcioni, a great connoisseur of Andy Warhol, collector and lender in his capacity as boss of Art Motors, pays homage to his adopted city (Milan). The exhibition includes over 300 works, most of them unique. Many from Andy Warhol’s estate, two from Keith Haring and other prestigious private collections.

Falcioni says: “From 50s drawings to icons Liz, Jackie, Marilyn, Mao, Flowers, Mick Jagger to portraits and his personal projects like fashion. There are canvases, papers, silks, milk with the famous and unique Polaroids to arrive at the unique acetates that are part of the second phase of his equally important work”. An unmissable exhibition, therefore, to discover the greatness of Andy Warhol’s artistic career and his influence on contemporary art.
