“American Beauty”: Mena Suvari recalls “strange experience” with Kevin Spacey behind the scenes

Released in 1999, ‘American Beauty’ sparked much controversy because it is a story in which a teenager transforms the sexual obsession of an adult and middle-aged man.

Throughout the plot, the marketing analyst played by Kevin Spacey does everything to seduce the best friend of his teenage daughter (Mena Suvari).

22 years after the film premiered, Suvari spoke to People magazine and recalled a “strange experience” he had with Spacey behind the scenes of the film when she was only 19 and he was 39.

Now 42, Suvari feels safe enough to say she was uncomfortable with Spacey’s actions.
