According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime reached 200 million subscribers this month, up 50 million in just three months.
In the previous report, released in January by CEO Jeff Bezos, the streaming platform had racked up 150 million subscribers.
Now, there isn’t much to do for Netflix, which had 204 million subscribers in December 2020, while Disney + surpassed 100 million in March of this year.
Amazon Prime’s success is the result of the excellent original productions featured in the catalog, such as “ The Boys ”, “ Jack Ryan ”, “ Fleabag ” and “ The Expanse ”, in addition to providing the acclaimed series ‘The Office’, ‘Supernatural’ and ‘How I Met Your Mother’.
Last year alone, Amazon Studios invested around $ 11 billion in original content … a huge increase from the $ 7.8 billion spent in 2019.
Despite the celebration, Bezos also announced earlier this year that he would step down as CEO and take on the role of executive chairman of the platform, making way for Andy Jassy, current director of Amazon Web Services.
