What began today is a crucial week for the birth of the new government. After the election of the presidents of the Chamber and the Senate (Lorenzo Fontana and Ignazio La Russa), the deputies will have to communicate today to the secretary general of Montecitorio to which group they intend to belong.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18, the group assemblies will meet to choose their group leaders. The appointment for the appointment is fixed at 3 p.m.
Bedroom
On Wednesday, October 19, however, the call for consultations is expected to begin. The Chamber is convened on Wednesday, October 19 at 3 p.m. to proceed with the constitution of the Bureau, that is to say the summons of the deputies and the election of the vice-presidents, the quaestors and the secretaries. Four vice-presidents, three quaestors and at least eight assistant secretaries must be chosen.
The Senate
With regard to the Senate, the indication of the elected representatives of the group they intend to join has been extended by one day. The regulations state that the communication must be received within three days of the election of the new president, but in this case the deadline would have expired on Sunday.
Senators who do not provide information about the group will be assigned to the mixed group. The only exception is represented by senators for life, who do not belong to any group.
On Tuesday, October 18, the groups will be called at 2 p.m. to proceed with their own constitution. Then the group leaders will be chosen. The same day, at 5 p.m., the conference of group leaders is convened.
The meeting at the Palazzo Madama is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 at 3 p.m. to elect the four vice-presidents, three quaestors and eight senator-secretaries who will make up the Presidency Council.
Mattarella Mission
Then on Thursday 20, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will telephone the President Emeritus Giorgio Napolitano, receive Ignazio La Russa and Lorenzo Fontana, then the delegations of the coalitions and the parties, until he draws his conclusions to entrust a mission .
Who will be in charge will then have the task of forming the government. Majority negotiations have been ongoing since the day after the vote and it has not been easy to find a compromise. Today Giorgia Meloni and Silvio Berlusconi will meet to try to find a truce after the episode in the Senate in recent days.
The procedure for the consultations should include the rise to the Colle degli ally in a single delegation, with the unanimous indication of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, so it is likely that Mattarella will give the job as early as Thursday.
After finding room with the other majority parties (and also discussing it with the opposition), the Prime Minister could return to Colle, dissolve the reserve and swear.
It all depends on the meeting between Meloni and Berlusconi
The timing of the swearing-in varies from Saturday 22 to Tuesday 25. But it all depends on what happens today, when Giorgia Meloni and Silvio Berlusconi meet. If Forza Italia went alone to Colle and did not appoint the head of the FdI as prime minister, Mattarella would have two choices to make.
He could hold a second round of consultations, or give a plan to Giorgia Meloni, pending further consultations with the allies as Prime Minister in pectore. Or entrust an exploratory mission, always to you or to an institutional personality to give more time.
If everything was resolved, Mattarella would confirm the assignment to Meloni with a few more hours, so the oath would be postponed for a few days.
