ACDSee Photo Studio Mac 9 Adds Facial Recognition Photo Organization

ACDSee has released Photo Studio Mac 9, what it calls both a fully-featured Digital Asset Management (DAM) tool as well as a non-destructive editor.

ACD Systems is one of the largest independent digital image editing and management companies in the world whose products include ACDSee Ultimate, ACDSee Professional, ACDSee Home, ACDSee Photo Editor, ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac, and ACDSee Luxea Video Editor. Last year, PetaPixel reviewed ACDSee Gemstone Photo Editor 12, a different layered editor that supports RAW-level working with multiple documents and non-destructive tools.

The company says that Photo Studio Mac 9 improves the current platform by adding a new Face Detection and Recognition feature that allows editors to keep track of specific people in batches of photos. Additionally, the editor now has a Development pane that houses three new features: Develop Presets, History, and Snapshots.

The Preset feature allows editors to quickly save and apply presets. Presets can be made by the editors themselves, but ACDSee also includes more than 50 pre-installed options. History is pretty much what it sounds like, and allows editors to see all of the changes that have been made to a photo and also step back to any of those processes easily — this same feature is one of the best “quality of life” capabilities of Adobe Photoshop, and now it’s in ACDSee Photo Studio. Snapshot allows editors to save a set of changes and preview or apply them to an image at any time.

In addition to the new features above, ACDSee Mac 9 comes with a set of user interface adjustments and tools such as the Info Palette — which provides helpful metadata about a selected image — and improved menu options, which the company says allows editors to “do more at once” while at the same time having greater control over tools.

ACDSee Photo Studio Mac 9 is available for $100 and, as the name suggests, is only available for Apple Mac computers.
