With 16 reviews posted so far, the supernatural horror “Abandoned”, starring Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story”), has received critical acclaim, earning just 6% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
The general consensus is that despite the talented cast, the production has a slow pace that relies on old cliches and adds nothing to the genre.
We separate the excerpts from the main criticisms:
“It’s an empty movie. The character of John Gallagher is almost non-existent and Emma Roberts is forced to play this cliché role of postpartum depression. (Roger Ebert)
“An apathetic terror that cannot be justified.” (packaging)
Have fun watching:
“‘Abandoned’ tries to mix a haunted house plot with heavy drama, but, despite having a capable protagonist, ends up getting lost along the way.” (RCB)
“Despite a talented cast, with some solid performances, this horror is superficial and confusing, copying old genre clichés without much enthusiasm.” (common sense media)
“‘Abandoned’ has some positives, but the disappointing conclusion makes the film’s flaws all the more apparent.” (Rant screen)
