‘A Silent Place 2’ grosses more than first US box office opening film

After being delayed for 15 months due to the pandemic, “A Silent Place 2” finally made its way into North American theaters and grossed more than the original film in the first showings.

The film grossed $ 4.8 million in its first screenings on Thursday (27). It’s an incredible start, given that the first film grossed $ 4.3 million on Thursday in April 2018 – before the pandemic.

‘Cruella’ only earned US $ 1.4 million in the first sessions.

According to projections (via Box Office Pro), the sequel to ‘A Silent Place’ promises to make as big a noise as the first film at the box office.

With the success of ‘Godzilla vs Kong’, exhibitors were excited to open their theaters to the international market, and ‘A Silent Place – Part 2’ is expected to fetch between $ 40 million and $ 50 million when it debuts in the United States.

Before the pandemic, the film was slated to open with $ 60 million on its first weekend in the United States.

It should be remembered that the original feature film debuted with US $ 50 million in April 2018, ending its reign with US $ 188 million in North America alone and US $ 340 million worldwide (a enviable achievement given the budget of only US $ 17 million).

The film will be released in national theaters on June 24, 2021.
