“It’s a complex matter and there’s a lot of depth to it that isn’t immediately evident to the consumer. Moreover, misinformation is getting increased by social media and various publications whose sole aim is to increase clicks at the expense of factual correctness” Sime adds.

And let’s not forget about incorporating sustainable practices such as recycling programs and biodegradable packaging. Those have also increased in popularity in recent years and more brands tend to be working towards the betterment of their product packaging.

“As with fast fashion, the beauty industry has also had its moment of fastness in creating products. Brands like Revolution Beauty are a clear example of that trend. However, more is not better and I’m glad that the consumer can now look past the 7-step routine and choose only the essential products, thus not only sparing their budgets but also becoming more mindful of what they’re using on the daily”, Gigi clarifies.

“We see brands embracing this movement, so it’s safe to say that it’s here to stay, as it should be”, Gigi adds. And it’s evident that everyone is a winner when it comes to this trend as brands can focus on product effectiveness and forego the marketing targeting of a product, thus saving themselves time and money to achieve a goal that is no longer as viable as others.
