The video immediately went viral as it’s unbelievable what happened to a patient with more than 20 contact lenses in his eye

A truly nightmarish case was that of a patient who presented with discomfort due to the inability to remove the lenses from the eyes. What happened is absurd and the doctor couldn’t help but recapture the moment.

Doctor Katarina Kurteeva found herself faced with an absurd situation. It’s about a California Eye Associates ophthalmologist who, in NewPort Beach, had to remove an incredible number of contact lenses from the eyes of a patient who forgot to remove them. It all started with the same patient who came to see her complaining of pain and blurred vision. The ophthalmologist immediately went to work to understand the extent of the problem when, before her eyes, appeared 23 contact lenses stuck together with which the woman had been living for a month.

Hearing the news, the patient is baffled: how is it possible to forget to remove the contact lenses and live with them for a month? Even she could not come up with an explanation for such an oversight that the ophthalmologist herself went crazy.

In the published video that has gone viral, the doctor tries to explain what happened: “When you wear contact lenses for many years, from 20 to 30, our cornea, which is the most sensitive part of the eye, becomes desensitized, which is essentially a protective function because otherwise you would be really bothered by the contact lenses which are a foreign body anyway”.

Here’s how the 70-year-old managed to hold 23 contact lenses in her eye for at least a month: “The upper eyelid pocket is getting really deep. So in this case, all those contact lenses may have been hiding like a pile of pancakes deep in the least sensitive part of the eye.”

It’s clearly not a common thing to find someone scrapping all those lenses in their eyelid, but it’s not that strange that it happened either.
