1923, everything we know about the Yellowstone spin-off series

Official: 1923, prequel to Yellowstone, has been confirmed. But what do we know about this upcoming series?

Yellowstone has been running very successfully since 2018 and has produced five seasons so far. The series tells the story of the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana. The ranch is continually threatened by developers, who would like to buy the land, in constant conflict with the neighboring national park of the same name and with the local indigenous reserve. The last episode of the fifth season has already aired in the United States, while in Italy we will have to wait until December to see the first.

The cast includes well-known and very talented actors, including Kevin Costner as John Dutton and Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. The series, in general, has met with good success with the public and critics, so much so that the Paramount Network has also decided to launch a spin-off, which will be called 1923.

The new series will be available on Paramount+ from December 18 and, as the title suggests, will be a prequel, set in the 1920s. Everything will center on the origins of the Dutton family, starting with the two parents Jacob and Cara, who will be played by two huge superstars, as well as cinema icons: Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

The series is already scheduled for two seasons and will be set almost exclusively in the 1920s, except for a few flashbacks to World War I between 1914 and 1918.

But what else do we know?

1923, the Yellowstone prequel arrives

Like Yellowstone, 1923 will also have Taylor Sheridan as developer and producer. However, this isn’t the first spin-off from the parent series, as there is yet another prequel, set in an even more distant past. We are talking about 1883, broadcast between 2021 and 2022 and which tells the story of the American Civil War.

Among the actors in the cast are Sam Elliott, who plays Shea Brennan, and Tim McGraw, or James Dutton, John’s great-grandfather. Taylor Sheridan does not intend to stop there, however, and has already announced that he has two other historical spin-offs in mind, taking place in the 1940s and 1960s.

We don’t have too much information yet, but 1923 will surely tell about the greatest historical events in US history, including the Great Depression, Prohibition, epidemics and droughts. The cast is most notable as it includes major movie stars. Besides Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, Timothy Dalton, Jennifer Ehfle and Jerome Flynn will also be there. The final three will play Donald Whitfield, Sister Mary O’Connor and Banner Creighton respectively.
