1899: plot and characters of the new Netflix TV series
The 1899 TV series is coming to Netflix, from the creators of Dark. The story is about an apparently unsolved mystery of migrants in the United States.
The new TV series 1899 is available on Netflix from November 17. Eight episodes that recount a tragic episode in 1899 when a steamboat full of migrants heads west leaving the Old Continent behind. The passengers, coming from different European nations, share hopes and dreams for the new century and for their future abroad.
However, the Atlantic crossing takes an unexpected turn with the sighting of another migrant ship adrift on the high seas. Their journey to a rich and prosperous future turns into a nightmare.
The plot: a ghost ship
A mix of drama, thriller and adventure, the Netflix TV series 1899 chronicles a journey aboard a ship full of European emigrants that turns out to be completely unfortunate and unexpected. “What’s wrong with this ship?” That’s what a passenger aboard the ill-fated Kerberos asks from the trailer when the trip to New York is cut short by the discovery of a missing ship. The Prometheus has long been drifting out to sea. When the Kerberos crew boards the sister steamship, they do not expect to find it empty. What happened to the passengers? Where did they all go? And the questions are not only those.

Maura Franklin
Played by Emily Beecham, Maura Franklin is one of the main characters of 1899. She is a British neurologist, one of the first female doctors in the UK. In 1899, women in England were allowed to study medicine but not to practice medicine. Reason why Maura embarks on the Kerberos to join the United States.
Daniel Solace
Aneurin Barnard plays Daniel Solace, one of the most mysterious characters aboard the Kereberos, a man with a particular interest in Maura.
Eik Larsen
Andreas Pietschmann as Eyk Larsen is the captain of the Kereberos, who makes the unusual decision to take a detour in an attempt to find the Prometheus. Pietschmann is a German actor best known for his role as Stranger in Dark.
Angel
Miguel Bernardeau, as Ángel, is a wealthy Spaniard traveling on the Kereberos who becomes interested in a mysterious scarred young man. He travels to New York with his brother, a priest.
Lin Yi
Isabella Wei, as Ling Yi, is a mysterious young Chinese woman who disguises herself as a Japanese using elaborate makeup as part of an unknown ruse, which serves her own ends.
Clemency
Mathilde Olivier is Clemence. A young aristocratic woman from Paris, Clémence finds herself aboard the Kereberos after entering into an unhappy arranged marriage.
